iOS 6 Maps

The new maps bring turn-by-turn directions to iOS, as well as fun features like Siri integration and 3D Flyover, which let you experience places in highly detailed 3D.
Turn-by-Turn Directions
The Apple version of maps bring turn-by-turn navigation to the iPhone, a traffic view, and anonymous real-time crowdsourced incident reports for traffic problems you encounter along the way.
Siri Integration
Maps are also integrated in with Siri, allowing you to ask Siri to do things like find your nearest gas station or how long it will take for you to reach your destination.
3D Flyover
A Flyover feature also lets you see the scene in 3D,much like the 3D Maps Google announced last week. Images are rendered in real time, and are exceptionally detailed 3D. You can choose to check out a destination you’re driving to using the mapping application, or even just check out somewhere you’d like to travel.
Over the past three years, Apple has acquired three mapping companies: Placebase, Poly9, and C3 Technologies, the latter two focused specifically on 3D mapping making releasing its own mapping solution an obvious next step.
The updated Apple version of Maps will be available in the release of iOS 6.

The new iOS 6 Maps have integrated Yelp for user reviews. The new traffic service allows users to provide incident reports for more accurate travel data.

And turn-by-turn navigation is now built in, providing users with directions much like a standalone GPS unit, or similar applications on the App Store.

Turn-by-turn directions can be viewed from the iOS lock screen, and if Apple's Maps application finds that a faster route is available, it can prompt users to reroute their trip on the fly.

The new Maps application also offers integration with Siri, allowing users to ask for directions to the nearest gas station. In one humorous demonstration, Siri was asked "Are we there yet" and the virtual personal assistant said to "Relax and enjoy the drive" when revealing the destination would be reached in 14 minutes.
One major feature of the new Maps is called "Flyover." It features 3D models of cities from around the world, with detailed recreations rendered in real time.

Are you listening Mountain View? We all knew it was going to happen, but Apple just launched its own, stunning Maps product, with “Flyover” or Apple’s incredible new 3D maps display.
“We built an entire new mapping solution from the ground up,” Forstall said, “It is beautiful. We did all the cartography ourselves.”
Crucial to the new Maps product is local search and Apple has taken in 100 million local businesses so far, in addition to being integrated with Yelp.
The company is also building a Waze-like raffic service, so users can see where slow traffic is and see accidents — Apple will use using anonymous crowd-sourced real time data from iOS users to keep this up to date.
All the Maps will be vector-based; which means that users can rotate views, angles and drill down into buildings.
