Navigon for Android updated, hits Samsung Apps (Australia)

Garmin’s smartphone navigation app, Navigon, has received a significant update, and is now available on Samsung Apps store for select Galaxy devices as part of a new update for Android 4.1.
Samsung Apps is a marketplace designed to bring users apps that are optimised for Samsung devices.
“With Navigon for Android 4.1, we enhance the usability of our navigation solution for select Galaxy smartphones and tablets, making it easy for Samsung users to access and manage the app via Samsung Apps,” Garmin Australasia mobile business director, Harry Gasiamis, said.
Samsung partnership aside, the updated Navigon app features Active Lane Assistant, audio output via Bluetooth, a widget for quick access to favourite destinations, and the introduction of timed coded alerts for school zones.
Active Lane Assist offers live lane animation to guide drivers to appropriate lanes. The feature is displayed in the bottom right-hand corner of the map view, with a coloured arrow directing the driver.
The app’s widget gives users the ability to access certain features without first opening the app. This includes navigating to one of the last 20 inputted destinations, for example.
Additionally, Navigon’s TrafficCheck feature provides an overview of latest traffic conditions based on the calculated route. It reports hazards and construction through a red, yellow and green meter reflects the extent of the calculated delay.
Although Navigon for Android is pre-installed with an array of functions on select Galaxy devices, premium services must be added via in-app purchases.
