WIRED Autopia Takes a Look at the History of In-Car Navigation
When we introduced our first portable in-car navigation device in 1998, the Garmin StreetPilot GPS was considered lightweight, weighing about a pound. Much has happened since then and today's nüvi devices are not only much lighter but also offer more advanced navigation features, such as traffic rerouting, natural "Real Directions," lane guidance and even parking information.
Our friends over at Wired Autopia recently posted a slideshow summarizing some of the highlights in the history of in-car navigation, including the StreetPilot GPS and our NAVIGON app, which was one of the first turn-by-turn navigation apps for the iPhone. Check out the full story with more examples here.
