GPS maker TomTom
yesterday announced its Speed Cameras service is now available in
Brazil. TomTom database is able to pinpoint over 17,000 cameras in the
country: fixed and red light cameras, as well as speed enforcement
zones.
TomTom currently offers its speed camera database in 46 countries worldwide.
The service will be delivered directly to devices as a hosted service, or via a server-to-server bulk feed.
“Drivers in Brazil are now better equipped to make smarter decisions on every journey, keeping to the designated speed limit and avoiding costly fines,” commented Ralf-Peter Schaefer, vice president of Traffic at TomTom.
“The launch of this service adds to the real-time information available to Brazilian drivers; TomTom recently launched its world-class traffic information in Brazil, helping drivers avoid frustrating traffic jams and reach their destination faster,” he added.
In Brazil TomTom is using as primary source the crowdsourced content from MapaRadar
which claims 30,000 POIs in its database. TomTom is not providing
details about how it has verified the quality of this database.
In comparison speedcam provider SCDB (Eifrieg Media) has 10,500 location for Brazilian speedcams while Cyclops have professionally verified around 11,600 sites across the whole of Brazil.
