There are a lot of good GPS and mapping apps available out there nowadays.  Given the pretty lame debut of Apple’s new non-Google mapping app, it would behoove you to educate yourself on the alternatives and, if you decide the Apple app isn’t for you, go for something else. Say, Magellan, who debuted SmartGPS apps for iOS and Android at Mobile World Congress.  (Most of the folks I work with who have iPhones use the Google app by default.  Which is as sad a commentary on the Apple app as I can think of.  But I digress.)
Magellan has been in the GPS and mapping biz for quite a while, as you probably know.  At the Mobile World Conference (MWC) now taking in place in Barcelona (attended by our own Judie!), they have demoed their latest SmartGPS GPS apps for both iOS and Android devices.  The apps are integrated with Yelp and Foursquare, and allow you to pull up “squares” that flip up to show reviews, tips, offers, and other info.  The info is stored in the cloud, so as to not clutter up your precious gizmo’s limited space.
So have you been looking for a good alternative to Apple maps, or whatever mapping application you are currently using to get you around town?  Check out the Magellan SmartGPS apps for iOS and Android, which will be available “in the sprint” (we don’t have price information for you; sorry about that).  And if you get it for yourself, be sure to let us know what you think below!
