Magellan Intros PND With Integrated Dashcam
GPS maker Magellan has demonstrated ath the CES trade show a RoadMate Personal Navigation Device (PND) with an integrated dashcam.

"Our new RoadMate PND with dashcam not only gets drivers to their destination, it also provides recorded evidence of the drive," said Stig Pedersen, associate vice president product management Magellan. "The PND portion of the unit is loaded with well-known Magellan features, such as landmark guidance, PhantomALERT, junction view, and free lifetime traffic and map updates. At the same time, its dashcam will record traffic events to provide a video record that helps prevent confusion in an accident."

The camera features 120-degree wide-angle viewing for a detailed look at the road. A G-Sensor detects and records any sudden motion or speed changes. As soon as any sharp braking, rapid acceleration, excessive cornering, or sudden impact occurs, the dashcam's DVR kicks in, recording what is taking place.

The device will be available in the United States in April 2014 at a retail price of $229.99.

Magellan will also sell a dedicated dash cam with a price expected to be around $150.

Mio, the parent company of Magellan has been selling dashcam for a number of years in Asia, no the moment seems to be ripe in the United States.
